Portugal’s new eco home incentive program, encourages sustainability across the country and, gives homeowners a new reason to upgrade their property.
If you haven’t been following Portugal’s sustainability initiatives this may be a good time to get up to speed, especially if you are considering purchasing real estate in Portugal or have done so already.
Portugal has been aggressively pursuing a green plan for a number of years and has big plans to continue doing so. This program aims to align Portuguese property owners to the country’s sustainable development goals and commitments, some of which include; decarbonising by 2050, recommitting to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and reaching a target of 80% electricity from renewable resources including total phase out of coal.
In its efforts to stay on plan Portugal is dedicating a multi-million euro budget to support property owners’ who invest in energy efficient home improvements, works and materials. The initiative applies to residential properties built before 2006 and includes support up to 70% of the investment with a limit of 7,500€ per property.
Eco home improvements can include windows, thematic insulation, heating, cooling and water systems, among others. Full details and application submissions can be found at Fundo Ambiental Portugal.
